How To Make A Green Color

Green is a color with many shades that allow many possibilities. In nature, for example, we can distinguish between the green of a fir tree and the green of a lawn.

Green is not one of the primary colors in painting and therefore needs to be created, even if it is available today in tubes or pots, it is more economical to make your own mixtures to obtain your ideal green, especially from blue and yellow.

Symbolism Of The Color Green

Green mainly evokes balance, harmony, and growth. This color has many meanings, particularly in sectors such as psychology, marketing, nature, etc. Green is made up of several shades, each with a different meaning.

Pale green has a rather negative connotation, we associate pale green with digestive problems or spoiled food, whereas classic green evokes relaxation, renewal of energy. It also evokes nature, love for family, friends, or animals.

Finally, it is a symbol of generosity, hospitality, self-confidence, and hope. Some negative values can be associated with the color green, such as possessiveness, anger, or materialism.

Making Green In Paint

Green is first obtained by mixing a cold color, blue, with a warm color, yellow. Using a color palette, mix these two colors gradually until you get the shade of green you want.

By playing with the quantities, you can obtain several shades of green, from the lightest shade to the darkest. Some other colors can be added to achieve different shades of green.

Names For Shades Of Green

1. Grey Green

To obtain shades of grey, simply add a slight touch of black to your green. The black must be very light and delicate in order to achieve grey tones.

The black can be added to the green obtained, but also to the basic yellow: the main thing is to add the black to the other color and not the other way round, so as not to risk losing your color.

2. Pastel Green

Your green has to be created to start making the pastel green. You can achieve this by adding a few points of white until you find your ideal color.

3. Water Green

To create a water green, start by creating your green base, with a slight dominance of blue. Then, you can gradually add touches of white until you are happy with the resulting water green.

4. Mint Green

Mint green is considered a cool color and is created with a bright, clear, and intense green. Add a few dashes of cyan for an even mix and then add green again for a lighter final color or blue for a darker result.

5. Military Green

If you want a military or khaki green, first make your green with blue and yellow. Once you have your green, add a light touch of red. The red will create a brownish-gree, a more opaque green.

6. Olive Green

To achieve an olive green, prepare your green base with pigment-free colors such as primary blue and primary yellow. Olive green requires colors that contain no pigment, as colors pigmented with red, for example, could turn your green into brown tones that would prevent olive green.

Yellow paint is then your base, to which you will gradually add blue paint to obtain green. Depending on the shade of olive green you want, add a few dashes of white for a light olive green, or a few dashes of black for a darker olive green.

What Color Combinations Are Possible With Green?

Color Combinations

In terms of decoration, the color green is often associated with the color wheel. This circle allows for a beautiful harmony of colors around the green. Thanks to the many shades of green that exist, it is often used in interior design to decorate walls.

The freshness that green brings is often harmonized with other colors, such as blue paint for example. These two colors lie side by side on the color wheel and are often used together in various fields such as painting, fashion, or interior design.

We Also Marry Green With Wood: This natural material is regularly used in interior design for its warmth and the relaxing and authentic atmosphere it brings. With wood, choose soft shades of green such as mint, emerald, or pastel.

Finally, the color green goes perfectly with shades of grey to combine the plant with the mineral. Pink can also be used with green for a more original but sophisticated touch: choose a powder pink or a flesh pink in a room such as a bedroom or a kitchen.

Pink can also be replaced by purple paint, especially with a bluish or greyish green such as pine, duck, or sage green.
